Remembering MEMRI Senior Researcher Dr. Amiel Ungar

With a heavy heart, MEMRI mourns the passing, on June 15, 2023, of MEMRI Senior Researcher Dr. Amiel Ungar, at the age of 75. Dr. Ungar held a Bachelor's degree from Yeshiva College and a Masters and a PhD in political science from Columbia University.


Dr. Ungar taught Political Science at Bar-Ilan University and wrote columns for The Jerusalem Report and Ha'aretz's English edition. He was fluent in English, Russian, and Hebrew, and conversant in several more languages.

He will be remembered for his sharp intellect, his wisdom, his wit, his humility, and his open-heartedness, and for his kindness as a mentor to many. He will be greatly missed by all.
